On Monday afternoon local time, the Spanish maestro made his first appearance on court since this year’s French Open in May. Partnering with Ruud, he secured a 6-1/6-4 victory over second seeds Andreozzi/Varela in the opening round of men’s doubles at this week’s ATP250 Bastad tournament, marking a successful start.

This is Nadal’s first return to Bastad since his title win in 2005, and he is participating in this clay-court event after 19 years to better prepare for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
“It’s great to be playing alongside my good friend Casper, who is an excellent player,” Nadal said in his post-match interview. “For me personally, I’m very happy to have won this match, and I think I played a high-quality game. This was our first time competing together as partners, and we performed quite well. I am also delighted to be back here nearly 20 years later.”
“I had competed here in 2003, 2004, and 2005, with fond memories, so I’m enjoying this week’s experience here and hope to continue winning.”
Nadal’s singles debut at this tournament will take place tonight Beijing time, no earlier than 8:30 pm, against Leo Borg, son of Swedish tennis legend.
