Last week, Zheng Saisai and Wang Xinyu triumphed in straight sets over Chan Hao-ching and Kudermetova in the women’s doubles final at the WTA 500 Berlin tournament. This marked their second title together since their 2021 Kumamoto victory.
For Zheng, this was her sixth career doubles title, while Wang claimed her fourth. Notably, it was also the first WTA 500 doubles title in the history of Chinese women’s tennis.
Zheng had been away from the courts for three years due to injury before making her comeback earlier this year, carrying significant pressure with her return. Now, with a renewed spirit, she and Wang have lifted the trophy together, leading Zheng to express her emotions on social media.
“I can finally say that after a long and challenging battle with a wrist injury, I am officially back on the WTA Tour. Despite five surgeries that haven’t fully resolved my issues, I’m thrilled to be back on court, feeling the energy and excitement that tennis and all of you bring. I always believed I would make a comeback, and standing here today means the world to me. Last week’s title in Berlin is just the icing on the cake, proving that this is just the beginning of my story.”
